About the program

What is OhioRISE?

OhioRISE (Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence) is a specialized Ohio Medicaid program — delivered through Aetna Better Health of Ohio — for children and youth with significant behavioral health needs. It coordinates care across schools, child protection, juvenile justice, developmental disabilities, and mental health or addiction services so families get one plan built around their child.

Who may qualify

  • Ages 0–20 and eligible for Ohio Medicaid
  • Significant behavioral health or substance use needs
  • Involved with multiple systems (schools, courts, child services)
  • At risk of, or returning from, out-of-home placement
  • Identified through a CANS assessment

Services members can access

  • Care Coordination
  • Intensive Home-Based Treatment
  • Behavioral Health Respite
  • Primary Flex Funds
  • Mobile Response & Stabilization
  • Psychiatric Residential Treatment

The CANS assessment

The Ohio Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment identifies your child's strengths and needs, determines OhioRISE eligibility, and guides the care plan. You can request one through your managed care organization, Aetna Better Health of Ohio, a local care management entity, the Medicaid Consumer Hotline, or your behavioral health provider — and our team can help you get started.
